Reviewing My Favorite Winter Pieces
As much as I enjoy those warm summer months, I have to admit that I absolutely love winter styling. And seeing as my approach to shopping and wardrobe planning has changed a lot this past season, I thought it would be smart to do a round up of all my favorite winter wardrobe pieces. Think of this as a review, and maybe inspiration for you next time you find yourself reaching for a wool coat.
Chunky Knits
Every winter I find myself living in sweaters, and this year I’ve stopped fighting it. I’ve finally started to enjoy the versatility of them. One thing I’ve been loving this season is wearing oversized fit sweaters in really chunky knits that can billow out over my jeans. I’ve mostly been sticking with a neutral palette to mix and match but adding variety by playing around with different silhouettes like balloon sleeves and mock neck collars. This season I’ve sought out cashmere blends and tried keeping the acrylic count to a minimum. And while I haven’t been entirely successful, I do think my efforts have paid off in the form of some really lovely staple pieces that I’ll be reaching for next year.
Straight Leg Denim
My denim style of choice for fall was definitely a cropped flared jean. This winter it has to be straight leg denim. I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant to try out this style. I remember trying on straight leg jeans on several occasions and thinking to myself, “these just don’t suit me.” Years of squeezing into high-waisted skinny jeans had seriously altered my understanding of comfort. This new style is so effortless to style and I actually choose to continue wearing them when I get home instead of immediately changing into sweats. If that doesn’t speak volumes, then I don’t know what does.
Chelsea Boots
One of my favorite items in my winter wardrobe every year is a trusty pair of Chelsea boots. This year I opted for a very simple black leather pair that met all my (extremely specific) criteria; ie. ankle length, the right amount of elastic band, round toe. I wear them religiously! I’ve also seen a ton of gorgeous options out there for those of you ready to add this staple to your winter wardrobe, or some variety of the classic style.
Crossbody Bags
The verdict is in, I am officially a bag person! When you’re really layering up in the winter, the last thing you want to worry about is a really bulky bag constantly slipping off your shoulder. This is where the crossbody bag really shines. I love to drape it across a long wool coat or even tuck it under my outerwear when I know I will be going in and out of shops all day. I’m also really loving the mini bag trend this season which has given us some lovely options to choose from. And tell me, what is your favorite place to shop for quality handbags?
