Your New Favorite Bra: True & Co. Review

As you may have guessed by now, comfort is huge in my books. Feeling comfortable both physically and mentally is really the basis for any good outfit and wardrobe. Bras are a tricky one and my taste has really changed over the years, going from restricting underwire bras to almost exclusively wearing bralettes and then back again all in the past few years, as my lifestyle has changed. More recently, I’ve found that my Victoria Secret bras (for which I only very recently got an actual fitting for, cringe) had started giving me back aches and pinching after a long day of wear. So as you can imagine, I was pretty thrilled when True & Co. got in touch and asked if I’d like to try out some of their bras. I had just started seeing this brand around on Instagram and was so happy to learn more about their ethos, being entirely female run and operated, and their process for designing better bras, using community feedback. Today I want to share my thoughts with you on this awesome brand!

The Styles

I’m trying out two styles, the True Weekend Ribbed Crossback Bralette in Black and the True Body Triangle Convertible Strap in Dulce. They also kindly sent me a pair of the True Body Hipster underwear. I love the versatility of these styles but the one that really sold me on just how good these are is the triangle bra. The first day I tried it on, I actually forgot that I was wearing it within minutes. This made me realize how uncomfortable my other bras felt, when I put them on and instantly feel the tightness around my ribcage. This bra has the comfort of a bralette but with the right amount of padding and lift, but without the fussy underwire. While I haven’t tried out the convertible strap feature yet, I know it will really come in handy during the warmer months. There is no annoying gaping or overflowing problems and it passes the t-shirt test too. With this one bra, I have truly become a convert, and now I just don’t see myself ever wanting to settle for anything less comfortable.

The Weekend is definitely more of a casual bra, ideal for wearing around the house or if I’m doing physical activity. The support is really nice and it has such a comfortable crossback design. I really like the support it gives me because we all know how annoying it can be to try any physical activity with a less than supportive bra. This one really holds you in place without being super skin tight like a lot of other sports bra’s I’ve tried.

As for the underwear, they are made in the same soft, stretchy material as the triangle bra. They don’t have any seams around the waist or legs and no elastic waistband so they sit really smoothly under my pants. The hipster cut is one that I gravitate towards to begin with, so I personally find them really comfortable. These would work really well with thin fabrics such as those oh-so trendy satin midi skirts that show every detail.

The Best Bits

One of my favorite things about this brand, apart from their incredibly comfy bras of course, is how size-inclusive they are. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to see “real looking” bodies featured on their Instagram and website. There is something so comforting in knowing that these products are made for everyone and really celebrate that in every aspect of the brand, from the marketing, product shots, to the sizing available. They have recently expanded their sizing range to 42DDD/F and there are different styles to meet different needs. I also really loved their campaign with women who’d recently given birth, again celebrating another body type that we just don’t see enough representing women.

I’ve also never felt comfortable buying and wearing nude bras because there is only ever one shade of nude and it is certainly not my shade of nude. I didn’t realize how something so minor really affected my confidence while bra shopping. I’ve only bought black bras in the past few years because I just felt like there was nothing else meant for me. Seeing the variety of shades to choose from on True and Co. actually gave me the courage to try a nude bra FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE. Can you believe that? I actually went for something lighter than my skin tone just because I liked it and I can honestly see myself wearing their bras in any shade.

So I’d love to know your thoughts on all of this? Have you tried True & Co. bras or underwear? What are your weird insecurities when it comes to bra shopping? While I totally understand if it’s a bit embarrassing to share, I feel like it’s something we’ve all experienced in one form or another and maybe talking about it openly will sort of neutralize these insecurities.
