The Easy Outfit Formula (That You Won't Get Tired Of)

Since I’ve started this capsule wardrobe experiment, nearly a year ago, I’ve really gravitated towards being able to put together more simple outfits. Nowhere is this more apparent than when it comes to summertime dressing. You know when it’s so hot outside (and inside, tbh) that you just can’t be bothered with layers or fussy fits? This is where those simple and trusty stand alone pieces really come in handy! So today I want to share with you my formula for a failsafe and easy outfit that you won’t get tired of no matter how long the heatwave lasts.

The One-Size-Fits-All Piece

So I’m not actually referring to size when I call it a one-size-fits-all piece. What I’m really talking about is the versatility of a piece like this & Other Stories Midi Wrap Dress, which ticks all the boxes for me in terms of fit (a little oversized), length (midi, always) and and style. This piece may differ for you; perhaps your holy grail piece is a jumpsuit, a satin skirt or even a slinky slip dress. Whatever it may be, the important thing is that it can do some heavy lifting when it comes to an overall outfit and it’s simple enough to be reworked for any occasion. It’s also really important that this is something you feel comfortable in and maybe it’s even in your go-to silhouette or style. A lot of my closet gravitates towards a monochrome minimalism, regardless of the type of clothing item, so I know what to look for when shopping for those key multipurpose pieces.

The Mix and Match Pieces

Accessories are a really important component of my capsule wardrobe. They’re also integral to an easy outfit formula because they allow you to diversify the ways you wear your one-size-fits-all piece. And I don’t think there is one perfect shoe for an everyday outfit that can’t also be dressed up for evenings. Take for example a pair of white leather sneakers. They can be worn to run errands around town but can also be paired with a dress for an elevated streetwear look in the evenings. The same goes for handbags which can be dressed up or down when paired with slides or heels. The key is to mix and match to fit the agenda for the day, all while playing around with styling. If you want to read about the accessories in my wardrobe to accomplish this, you can find that here.

So that’s my formula for an easy outfit with tons of different styling possibilities! Next time it’s too hot outside to think of an outfit or you’re just running late for work in the morning, you’ll have your easy outfit formula as a secret weapon. So now for a little activity for you. Ask yourself: What is your go-to silhouette or style of clothing? What is that one item of clothing that you can style for five different occasions without missing a beat? What different combination of accessories go with this? Let me know what you have in mind by leaving a comment below! Thanks so much for reading. xx Jessica
