Thoughts On A Year-Round Wardrobe
Having a small closet generally means wearing pieces year-round in order to get the most use out of them. This is something that I try to consider while shopping too. I really love certain types of clothing, particularly jackets and coats, which sadly don’t get used all that much in the San Diego climate. Knowing this about the way I shop and what I’m attracted to in stores is really helpful for curbing those shopping impulses and focusing on other items that I can wear throughout the seasons.
Some particular items that I love to shop for, and which I can wear all year long include t-shirts, denim, light jackets and cardigans. This gives me a solid base for my wardrobe too, with these items being easily mix and match-able. One great example is the Abigail Shacket (shirt + jacket) that I picked up in the spring from Aritzia. And the french retailer, Sezane also makes a similar piece called the Will Jacket. This light layer has proven so useful through the transitional seasons and probably much more going into the fall and winter.

The same rule also applies to accessories too! I have a small collection of bags that I absolutely love and wear all year long. Building a versatile bag collection is pretty easy to accomplish if you invest in more simple, leather pieces in neutral colors like brown, black and white. I try to stear clear of items with a really trendy design (that I will tire of quickly) or that are bright colors. That said, I really love bags made in different natural fibers, like my beloved Woven Finds bags, because they’re perfect for summer and really cute when juxtaposed with more fall/winter appropriate outfits. Maybe that’s just the SoCal coming out in my style. We’re always beach ready, even in the winter.
So those are my thoughts on creating a year-round wardrobe. I absolutely love the concept of a capsule wardrobe but the core of that is so important for putting together outfits all year. Do you have any tips for finding the right pieces that can be enjoyed all year? Let me know in the comments. Thanks so much for reading! xx Jessica
