Minor History True Crossbody Bag Review | AD
Minor History is an ethical and sustainable accessories brand that has been on my radar for quite some time now. Their chic structured handbags offer the perfect mix of timeless and contemporary design. It’s one of those instantly recognizable brands that, in my opinion, are doing something really unique in the world of sustainable fashion.
I’ve been carrying the True Crossbody Convertible Bag for a bit and have had time to formulate some thoughts on it. I also noticed there is a surprising lack of reviews floating around the internet (apart from Christine’s awesome vid) despite it being such a loved brand on Instagram. So I thought I’d take the opportunity to share my full review for anyone contemplating their next sustainable handbag purchase.
First Impressions
I’ve been wanting to add a bit of color to my monochromatic wardrobe but in a way that still felt true to my personal style, so naturally adding color through accessories felt like a good way to go. When Minor History got in touch and offered to let me try out one of their new colors, I jumped at the opportunity. After much deliberation, I finally settled on one of their most popular shapes, the True Crossbody bag, in the new color Barbera.
Upon receiving the bag, I was immediately impressed with the high quality leather material and the sturdy, structured design. Personally, I prefer a structured bag to a soft one, as it gives my casual outfits a more polished look. I’m also a big fan of the clean, minimal shape and the convertible crossbody strap. For longer outings I’ve been leaving the crossbody strap attached but then carrying the bag by the small handle. But this bag would be ideal for traveling as it’s easy to remove the longer strap and use the handbag for evenings.

What Does it Hold?
For me, the True Bag is the ideal size for my everyday bag as I’m not a huge fan of carrying around a large tote if I can avoid it. It’s a rather compact size but because the inside is unlined, you really get full use of the dimensions. It holds my iPhone 11 Pro, car keys, cardholder, reusable bag, chewing gum, hard sunglasses case, glass hand sanitizer spray bottle, mask and my Canon Powershot G7X vlogging camera. That’s a whole lot (and everything I consider essential) for a relatively small handbag!
This is the type of bag I would reach for when I’m out for long periods of time on day trips or running errands around town. And while it doesn’t have a full zip or snap closure, the tapered rectangular shape of the bag makes it feel very secure.
How I Style It
What do I look for in a handbag? Well, I have a fairly casual style day to day; lots of jeans and tees, slouchy knits and flats. My handbag is the one place I love to dress things up a bit. I love the combination of a really laid back outfit with a more structured or unique handbag - case in point with my bucket bag obsession - but also something keeping in line with my minimal sensibilities, so not a lot of unnecessary tassels or hardware. And a multi-tasking convertible style gives me the versatility I need with a small wardrobe.
This piece is so easy to style because it’s one of those perfect everyday, goes with everything styles. I’m particularly excited to wear this bag over long line coats this Autumn and Winter, using the crossbody strap. For evening looks, I think it will compliment maxi dresses nicely when carried by the top handle. The deep plum color is especially exciting for me to style because as I mentioned earlier, it’s an easy way for me to inject some color into my monochrome wardrobe and play around with different color palettes. I’m in love with the purple and army green color combination of this outfit, especially paired with my go-to light wash denim and gold accessories.

Final Thoughts
Overall, I’m so happy with the style and quality of this bag. The unique shape and color is like nothing else in my collection, which has proven to be a fun piece to spice up my wardrobe. The sturdy vegetable-tanned leather is non-toxic and clearly made to last, as I’ve seen no signs of wear with regular usage over the past month. The convertible crossbody feature is a major bonus to the overall design of the bag and has made it much more practical for me than if it were just a top handle bag. I highly recommend this bag, and Minor History in general, for anyone looking for a solid wardrobe investment. I’ve already got my eye on the Oyster Wallet to replace my current cardholder. Let me know in the comments if you have a favorite Minor History piece of your own or if there’s a piece you have your eye on.
