Wow, this has been a very touch-and-go week with travel plans, and a couple days ago we decided to cancel our trip to Europe. I’m pretty disappointed but I know it’s the best thing to do right now to ensure the safety of myself and others. So today I thought I’d cheer myself up (and hopefully you too!) with a little wanderlust window shopping. In my opinion there are a few key pieces that really touch on effortless French style. Many of these pieces, I had planned to shop while on my trip and I’m still dreaming about them. So here are my favorite picks for a French-inspired style edit!

A Case For French Lit

I was recently gifted a couple of my very own custom phone case by CaseApp, and naturally I jumped at the opportunity! My inspiration was the iconic designs of the Gallimard books, the classic French publisher. I wanted to include a typical French phrase in place of a book title, and I finally landed on ‘La Joie De Vivre,’ a gentle reminder of the joy of living.

The ‘Jeans & A Dressy Top’ Formula

When I think of the perfect Parisian-esque outfit, the jeans and a dressy top formula always comes to mind. For the jeans portion of this formula, I think effortlessness is perfectly achieved with a great fitting pair of straight leg denim. I’m really interested in trying out the new offering from Everlane, the Super Straight Jean, and the highly coveted Re/Done Stove Pipe Jean.

As for the top portion of this formula, I’m really into two styles at the moment: a thin knit top (like this gorgeous number) or a classic button down shirt. Personally, I think you can go two ways with a button down top: either an ultra classic style in cotton or silk, the Sezane’s Florence Shirt (which has been on my wishlist for ages), or one with a more feminine embellished detail like the Mélusine Shirt. Both are winners in my book!

A Cozy Knit & Effortless Outerwear

When it comes to chic and classic French-inspired knitwear, Sezane has sort of cornered the market. Now that we’re headed into Spring, I’m itching to try out some of the lighter knits in lovely light colors. Some personal favorites are the classic crew neck Gaspard Cardigan and the slightly heavier Elys Cardigan. I also love all of the lighter outerwear options this time of year. My favorite French girl styles are an oversized blazer, a chore jacket like the one I have pictured, and a long relaxed trenchcoat.

Masculin Féminin Accessories

Accessories definitely make any simple outfit feel more French-inspired. I love the look of a woven basket bag, a cornerstone of the French ‘It’ girl look. But I also love how French style really plays with more androgynous pieces, like a comfortable ankle boot or a simple gold chain necklace. And the French are so good at elevating a simple outfit with the right shade of rouge and perfectly undone hair.
