Three Styling Tips for Wardrobe Basics With Poplinen

In my capsule wardrobe journey, I’ve come to really appreciate great-fitting basics made with high quality materials. There are so many benefits to having a closet stocked with basics, from making it easier to figure out what to wear each morning to curbing impulse buys each time the seasons change. They are also the key to achieving an effortless, less-is-more look with ease. With that said, there are a few styling tips that I rely on to keep things looking fresh and interesting, so today I thought I’d share those with you.
Accessorize
Accessories are one of the easiest and most effective ways to change the overall vibe of a look drastically. Some of my favorite things to play around with are sunglasses (cute and functional), shoes and handbags. For a Parisian-inspired look I’d go for a woven basket bag, vintage scarf, cat eye sunglasses and a strappy sandal. If I want an edgier look for a night out, I might opt for a more structured handbag and some bold earrings. Because jeans and a tee have become something of a uniform for me day to day, I try to add interest with jewelry. I just love the understated elegance of the Gwen Long Sleeve Tee paired with some mid wash jeans and minimal gold jewelry.
Layering Pieces
Basics can be used to layer up with other items in your closet that perhaps don’t get as much wear as you’d like. While I love a collared shirt for workwear, sometimes I’d like to style it in a way that’s more weekend appropriate, so layering it under the Agnes Ragland Sweatshirt makes it feel a bit more relaxed. Layering is also a great way to wear seasonal items year round. A silk slip dress layered over the Norma Ribbed Turtleneck instantly becomes Fall-appropriate and creates a whole new look in itself.
Add Outerwear
Outerwear is always the finishing touch to my look and I just feel a bit like something’s missing when I don’t have a jacket or coat to sling on top of my outfit. They also do a great job of polishing up even the simplest of looks and adding a bit more visual interest to your outfit. I dress pretty casually most of the time, so a classic denim jacket (or its trendy sister the shacket) is always an easy choice for me. I also love the look of a leather biker jacket with a simple tee or mock neck sweater peeking out for the cooler months. Outerwear is a functional and necessary part of most of our wardrobes throughout the year, so why not use it as an opportunity to dress up your basics?
