The Oversized Dress Edit
When we finally find ourselves in the dog days of summer, unsure of what to wear anymore, I like to reach for my one-and-done outfit formula: a simple dress. As I’ve mentioned here before, I’m a big fan of a floral midi dress and while I only have a couple of these pieces, they’ve been a staple in my spring/summer capsule wardrobe for some time now. This summer I knew I wanted to add another dress to the rotation and I had fallen in love with dramatic, oversized sihlouettes that I’ve seen from designer Cecilie Bahnsen and in the closets of Thandimaq, Brittany Bathgate and Jasmine Dowling. Looking for a sustainable option took some time but I ended up finding some really lovely pieces so today I thought I’d share a roundup of my favorite sustainable oversized dresses.
About the Dress
This gorgeous Shirt Dress from Tribe Alive (gifted as part of a paid IG collaboration) has that perfect silhouette I was looking for. It’s the midi-maxi length that I love, it has a tiered skirt and a sleek, minimal design. I love how it looks styled with simple flats (slides or sneakers) and contrasted with brown accessories to add a little extra interest. This is the type of shape that looks best when styled really minimally to let the dress stand out on its own, which is my ideal approach to summer styling. It even has the slight daytime dressing gown vibe that’s been made popular by brands like Sleeper, but is much more wearable and versatile in my opinion, making it a solid wardrobe staple. I’m also planning to style this cinched at the waist with a belt or tied up shirt to change up the shape.
