Summer Outfit 5
Dressing For The Dog Days of Summer
Today’s post is the last of the summer outfit series and it’s one particularly fit for the current heat spell we’re experiencing here in SoCal. The end of August is always one of the hottest parts of summer and recently all I’ve wanted to wear are easy flowy dresses when I go out or shorts and tank tops around the house. And so today I thought it particularly apt to feature a beloved piece in my year round wardrobe, a floral midi dress, and share a bit about an exciting new addition to my closet. So grab yourself an iced coffee or a chilled glass of rosé (depending on when you’re reading this) and let’s get into it.
Most Worn Midi
I recently decided to start including this floral midi dress into my year round capsule wardrobe and it’s something I’m surprised I didn’t do sooner. This dress is a few years old and one I picked up in a sale from Mango with small expectations. But it quickly turned into one of my favorite (most joy-sparking) pieces, namely because of the feminine touch it adds to my otherwise fairly casual and androgynous wardrobe.
I’m not big on dresses, which is why I only have a couple of floral midis that I wear more casually and a couple for special occasions. But it’s definitely something I see becoming a more important part of my personal style, as this summer season has shown me. Because of how much I’ve worn this one, I am now considering adding a sustainable option to my summer 2021 shopping wishlist, likely in the same floral midi style, seeing as that’s my go-to favorite. Do you have a piece in your closet that you’ve surprisingly grown to love this season? Let me know in the comments.
Classic Swedish Clogs
I’ve loved a classic wooden clog for a while now. I had a pair that I wore nearly every day in college and the years after. I think this stems for my formative teenage years obsession with Swedish street style and achieving that perfect Swedish summer look. That’s definitely what I was channeling for this look, although you’ll be happy to hear that I refrained from using my road bike as an accessory in the interest of not doing the most.
These Dublin Clogs from Sandgrens Clogs are a new (kindly gifted) addition to my wardrobe that will carry me seamlessly through the transitional months and into the autumn and winter. They’re handcrafted in Sweden and made from natural materials with a wood sole and vegetable-tanned leather. I went for the classic Dublin because of the comfortable heel height (this is about the highest I’ll go) that feels comfortable enough to walk around in while still giving you that little boost. They have so many variations of this style and others like sandals and boots, but the classic mule will always hold a special place in my heart. I can’t wait for the cooler months when I can pair these with socks, denim and a knit (as I saw on an incredibly chic traveler in the Seattle airport) and feel like a real Swedish cool girl!
Wrapping Up Summer Fits
So that’s it for summer outfits on the blog front! Not because summer is over (quite the contrary) but this girl is itching to chat all things fall fashion and 5 seems like a succinct number to end the series on. I’d love to know your thoughts on the new seasonal outfit series? Do you like having a sort of spotlight on an individual outfit? I quite like sharing the backstory of certain pieces in my wardrobe. And I’m selfishly hoping that this time next year I’ll have some outfit inspiration to look back on when the inevitable summer wardrobe slump hits. If you missed the last few you can find them here: ONE, TWO, THREE, & FOUR.
