How To Style One Piece 10 Ways
You know those pieces in your closet that can be worn with everything and anything? Those wardrobe heroes that you reach for when you just don’t know what to wear? I love a versatile wardrobe staple because it makes me closet much more wearable overall. That’s why I was super excited to participate in the ADAY Outfit Repeater Challenge over on Instagram using the hashtag #OutfitRepeaterChallenge. Due to the constant cycle of fast fashion, on average we wear only wear an item 7 times before throwing it out, which is absolutely insane if you ask me! So ADAY has challenged us to invest in quality pieces that are made to last, and wear one piece in your closet as many ways as possible over a 10 day period. My wardrobe staple of choice is the ADAY Mock Up Top, a fitted, ribbed boatneck knit in a lovely light grey color. Today I’m sharing the styling tips I used to style one piece 10 ways.

Start with the Basics
Denim is arguably the easiest piece to style anything with in your wardrobe. When in doubt, I always reach for a classic style of denim, like these Re/Done Stovepipe jeans, with a mid wash and a more relaxed fit. To dress things up you can add a statement jacket and matching shoes to tie it all together. I like mixing tougher pieces like a denim jacket with more tailored items like these classic loafers from Sarah Flint (discount code here). These details really help to balance the casualness of the denim and gives the look a more put-together feeling.

Play With Proportions
If you’re going for a more paired back and minimal look, I think a lot of interest can be achieved through balancing proportions. This top is smaller and more fitted than a lot of other pieces in my wardrobe so pairing it with a cropped wide leg pant felts appropriate. Likewise, you can layer a larger, more oversized fit piece on top of this sweater to keep your outfit from feeling too top heavy or bulky.

Elevate Your Loungewear
You know those days when you want to feel put together but you know you’ll just be working from your desk (or let’s be real, the bed/couch) all day? That’s when the fitted top + comfy pants formula really comes in handy. I wouldn’t normally pair a fitted knit top like this with really casual sweatpants but with all this time spent at home, somedays “real pants” just feel so unnecessary. But putting on a ‘smart’ top somehow tricks my brain into being productive. The same goes for sweatpants and a crisp white button down shirt too!

Add A Pop Of Color
I’m a neutrals girl through and through so when I add a pop of color to my outfit, it’s typically something quite muted like these olive green wide leg pants or a plaid print. That said, I do find it tricky to style colors and patterns, especially together in a way that feels cohesive and not too loud for my taste. That’s why having good neutral basics is so important in your wardrobe. As I mentioned earlier, it just makes everything else so much more wearable. The key is to find a neutral in the same warm or cool color scheme as the other pieces so that they all tie together nicely.

Break Out Your Summer Clothes
One styling trick I’d like to get much better at is layering pieces to bring them from one season to another. A fitted knit like this is ideal for adding an extra layer of warmth under your more summery tops and dresses. And it gives you a bit more coverage too. This also works when mixing different materials together like a soft flowy silk with a heavier knit or denim. So next time you’re longing to break out your strappy cami and pretend that summer is here, be my guest!

Layer Up With Knits
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with layering knits together, in fact I think it’s something we should all do more often. The trick is to balance thinner knits with heavier knits in top. I love the look of a slouchy fit cardigan layered over a more fitted top to give you shape and warmth at the same time. The comfort factor is next level and you get more wear out of your knitwear before packing it away in storage for the next season.
