A Sneak Peek At My Bedroom Makeover
If you’ve recently watched my YouTube channel, you may have seen I’ve been doing a whole lot of planning, painting, and organizing for my bedroom makeover. It has been loads of fun for this interior design-loving gal to work on what is essentially a blank slate. Now that the walls, ceiling and floorboards all have a fresh lick of paint, the gold fixtures have been installed and the vacuum seal storage bags and moving boxes have finally been unpacked, there isn’t much else for me to decide on except for the furniture. And this is obviously the most fun part of the whole process because it means I can look through hundreds of pages of decor with the express purpose of actually ordering some of it, rather than the usual pinning and pining I’m used to doing in my free time.
On top of all that, I am SO excited to share that I’m partnering with AllModern on this bedroom makeover to give my bedroom a distinctly Mid-Century Modern look that’s right in line with my personal taste. You may remember last time I partnered with AllModern on this dining room refresh post, my first attempt at putting together an interior design mood board. Today I’m sharing a little sneak peek at my plans for the bedroom makeover and some of my favorite AllModern Mid-Century-inspired decor.
Focal Point Furniture
One of my most favorite aspects of the Mid-Century style is all of the sturdy, solid wood furniture. That streamlined design and warm chestnut color is so inviting and does wonders to warm up a room. Because I wanted to paint the walls a stark off-white to brighten up the rather small space, I had a natural wood color in mind to balance things out. I particularly love the paired back design of the Isabelle Nightstand and matching Groove Dresser (which comes in a larger 6-drawer style too) both of which are so well priced for solid wood pieces. And since the bed is the focal point of the room, I wanted something that would keep the space feeling calm and uncluttered. After scouring Pinterest for inspiration, I fell in love with the idea of a prominent wood headboard like the Aliyah bed frame styles. It gives the space a gender-neutral feel, to balance out more feminine soft furnishings.
Pops of color
Speaking of soft furnishings, have I ever mentioned that I have a bit of a throw pillow problem? A velvet throw pillow problem to be precise. It’s something about their quirky, offbeat and retro charm that reminds me of Diane Vreeland’s ‘garden in hell’ living room or the colorful, modern Danish homes of Line Schjelde (@merimeri.dk) and Michelle Nielson (@stonemuse) that I adore. I tend to gravitate towards pops of pastel colors in throw pillows and blankets to break up my crisp white bedding. And I’ve recently become obsessed with the idea of a velvet or boucle lounge chair in the corner of the room to create a modern reading nook so naturally the Natalie Barrel Chair has made its way onto my dream furniture wishlist.
Decor Details
And lastly, there’s a few decor piece that I’m considering to give my bedroom an inspired feeling. I’m still looking for a full length arched mirror like the Ayrin Mirror which I’ve bookmarked in the hopes that it will be restocked soon. I’ve been looking for an arched mirror for a couple months now and none have come closer to my desired style and price range then that one. For lighting I decided to stick with a brass globe task lamp to match the other fixtures in the room. The Dunnes Lamp has a whole lot of character and gives off a soft glow to achieve that perfect cozy bedroom ambiance. And of course, the wood floors could use a little warming up with an area rug. I love a muted, low pile, handwoven options, or something in a natural jute material.
So there’s a little rundown of my plans for the bedroom makeover. I’m so excited to share the finished room design with you all very soon here on the blog and on my YouTube channel. While the work has been gradual over the past couple of months, I don’t really expect it to be completely done after these last bits come in. There will likely still be a few things I’ll add here and there as I need them. But I’m hoping it will really help to bring my bedroom together and make it feel oh so cozy. So I hope you’ve enjoyed this little sneak peek. And I’d love to get an idea of the interior decor styles you’re loving at the moment. Let me know in the comments below!
