Spring Outfits: Chore Jacket & Clogs
I’m back today with another simple spring outfit idea, this time featuring two spring wardrobe staples: a chore jacket and some classic Swedish clogs. Spring is one of my favorite times of the year for styling. The weather’s cool enough that you can get away with light layers, which always adds interest to an outfit in my opinion. The key to making an outfit feel more spring-like is to embrace a light, airy neutrals color palette and different textural elements. Oh, and a casual silhouette in comfortable materials that you can move in, perfect for days spent at the park or the farmer’s market.
The Perfect Lightweight Chore Jacket
If you find yourself wanting to wear your denim jacket every single day then I’d like to introduce you to the humble chore jacket. It’s like your favorite denim jacket but a bit boxier, a bit more minimal in design (sans hardware) and it comes in a variety of colors. It’s typically made in a heavy cotton which keeps its shape and blocks out the wind but feels a bit softer and less restrictive than a denim jacket. I love the subtle nod to classic mens workwear and the nautical understated flare of a piece like this. I picked up this jacket from Aritzia a few years ago but the Sezane does an identical piece each season called the Wills Jacket and the Willa Jacket, a slightly cropped variation.
The Fisherman Sweater
I’m someone who wears knitwear year round. One of my favorite styles of sweater for its nautical design is a fisherman sweater because it reminds me of brisk NorCal summers. I’m wearing the Tradlands Modern Fisher Sweater, a lightweight cotton crew neck with the classic knit pattern. In the warmer months I like something that’s breathable, that can be thrown over my shoulders during the day and layered under a light jacket at night without feeling too bulky.
Classic Swedish Clogs
As soon as it warmed up enough for me to put my boots into storage for the year, I broke out the clogs and have been wearing them nonstop ever since. After about a year of reaching for my black Sandgrens Dublin Clogs as often as possible, I recently added the Nude Maya Clogs to my wardrobe too. These are the same classic Swedish design as my first pair but with a slightly higher heel. And believe me I’m not one to opt for a higher heel in any shoe but because of the solid wood base and slight platform, they feel just as comfortable, if not more, than any other itty bitty heel in my closet. While I think the matte black color works for any season, I do love this light tan color for Spring especially. These truly are the perfect shoes for the season.
A Round Basket Bag
If you’ve seen my last few blog posts you may have noticed that I’ve been using this bag a lot lately. It’s one of the only accessories that I try to save for the Spring and Summer because it feels that much more special when I finally break it out again. This is the Round Bag from SOCCO Designs, a small brand I found through Etsy a couple years ago and it’s a great piece for adding texture to an outfit. I often find myself being a bit particular about my shoe and bag pairings so this is the piece I usually reach for if I’m not sure which bag to use. It’s surprisingly versatile in that way, despite being a more seasonal piece. And the small round shape of this bag makes it feel especially unique in my wardrobe.
The Light Wash Straight Denim
Straight leg jeans are a year round staple for me. During the warmer months I like to brighten things up with a light wash denim. These Levi’s Wedgie Jeans are a staple in my wardrobe for a reason, the fit is *chef’s kiss* and the quality holds up over time. I’ve worn them every single week for over a year now and they still look and feel as good as new. I have this style in a couple washes and despite being a more of a straight cut than other pairs I own, these are actually some of my most slim fitting jeans too. That’s the ideal denim cut in my mind.
