Capsule Wardrobe Series Part 3: Introducing Seasonal Pieces
As a follow up to Part 1 and Part 2 of my Capsule Wardrobe Series, this is perhaps the most exciting post to write yet. This is my edit of fall seasonal pieces that I will be introducing into my capsule collection. Think of this as a sort of overview of my favorite fall trends, by no means a comprehensive list but what I’m most excited about and how I plan to incorporate these trendier pieces into my personal style.
Berets
As you can probably tell, I love wearing berets! They work so well with my hairstyle, which is something I have trouble with when it comes to other hat styles. They’re cute, practical and so very French! They also make me feel like I’m channeling Angela Davis which is great. Black, light gray, and camel colored berets are all definitely making an appearance in my wardrobe this season and into winter, but I’m also super into a light pink and a red shade, and we’ll see what else I find! This one I’m wearing is from H&M and is a wool blend.
Satin Midi Skirt
One trend I absolutely love this fall is the satin midi skirt! I’ve seen them in so many beautiful autumnal colors, including the coveted Topshop skirt that is sold it pretty much everywhere. I guess it all started with the Realisation Par leopard skirt that you’ve probably seen all over the gram. Good news is, there are tons of great dupes out there for a fraction of the price.
Leopard Print
Leopard print is another major trend that I love a whole lot. I’m still trying to work out what kind of a piece I should add to my wardrobe, as you can find this print in dresses, skirts, tops, heels and bags, pretty much everywhere.
Overall Dress
I love the layering opportunities this piece creates. You can wear this with chunky knits, white booties, a graphic tee, tights and a longline coat or trench. For more autumnal vibes (and extra warmth), go for a darker denim or corduroy material. A ring pull zipper adds a nice 60s detail. And lucky you, I’ve chosen 3 great choices in dark green, dark blue and black!
Snake Skin Boots
I’ve been on the hunt for a great pair of snake skin western style boots. I love the sold out Topshop pair and I’ve seen other cute ones from Zara, Mango and Amazon’ new fashion brand Find. This is something I’m honestly a little bit intimidated by. Will I be cool enough to pull these off? But I really love how Anna from The Anna Edit has styled her pair from Topshop with a minimal capsule wardrobe so she gives me hope.
Structured Mini Bag
I’ve been really into faux-croc accessories lately. I’m hoping to find a cute structured mini bag in this materials for a sleek and stylist fall addition. I have my eyes on a couple pieces from Zara and Mango has recently been a great place to look for this style of bag.
Chunky Cardigans
As much as I love a thick knit in the winter, I think I love a cardigan even more, especially for the fall weather, which is a bit hot and cold over here in southern California. I think I may have nabbed my new favorite cardigan from New Look but there are so so so many good option all over the place. A few places to start are & Other Stories & H&M.
Teddy Coat
I’m actually looking forward to the days when it will be acceptable to wear a winter coat out in public… not quite there yet. I love bundling up and playing with layers and the teddy coat trend is back from last year and going stronger than ever! I love the idea of pairing this with some slick black skinnies and heeled boots for a chilled city strolling look.
Trenchcoats
More and more I am seeing some really cool trenchcoats in plaid and vinyl. I absolutely love how they look paired with simple sweaters and jeans outfits. This may be the perfect piece to take you from fall to winter. I love how Rebecca Arendse styles a black vinyl trench with her minimal style.
