Styling An Oversized Dress For Spring
With all this time at home, I’ve really started to see a change in my personal style. It’s getting me to think outside of my tried and true staples and reach for more relaxed pieces that stand on their own with minimal effort. While my dress collection is on the smaller side, there are two styles in particular that I can’t get enough of: a floral midi (which I happen to be wearing today for the #ParisianStyle10x10 challenge) and an oversized dress! I shared a full length version and a slightly dressier short style last year that I adore and now I'm excited to introduce a shorter everyday option to my wardrobe too! So today I thought I’d share one way I style a short oversized dress for spring.
Tradlands Nico Dress
The Tradlands Nico Dress is quite a popular piece for fans of the brand. Each year they come out with a few new colors and patterns that get snatched up quickly. This year they released a lovely lilac shade as part of their Spring/Summer collection and it happens to be one of my favorite colors, like ever. They’ve also expanded their sizing up to 5X and introduced a secondhand marketplace to shop gently used Tradlands pieces, two important steps towards a more inclusive and circular fashion model, and even more a reason to celebrate one of my favorite brands!
I went with my usual size Medium and it’s quite large but still well fitted in the top and shoulder area. The material is a 70% Tencel, 30% Linen blend so it’s soft and flowy to the touch while still keeping that lovely, breathable linen texture. The Nico Dress also comes in 4 darker colors and a light abstract print. As you may have gathered from the fit, it’s incredibly comfortable and will surely be in heavy rotation during those hot, sticky summer months. It also makes the perfect house dress and gives me an equally comfortable alternative to loungewear sets.
Offbeat Accessories
Because the dress quite an exaggerated silhouette, I wanted to keep the accessories quite small and a bit quirky and playful. I was definitely trying to channel some of the offbeat styling of my favorite brightly clad, pattern classing Scandi fashion bloggers. I was recently gifted some products from Merit Beauty and they came in the cutest little tied corduroy makeup bag that reminds me of the Rejina Pyo Nane bag. I’ve also been looking for a punchy black and white ring fr a while now and this Checker Dome Ring from Rellery really fits the bill.
My Go-To Spring Shoe
There’s no shoe I’ve wanted to wear more than my Sandgrens Dublin Clogs lately! Unfortunately I didn’t include them in my #ParisianStyle10x10 capsule, but you can guarantee I’ll be living in them again once the challenge completes. I love that they’re closed toe (for icky weather) and give me a bit of height. The wooden platform makes it feel like I’m hardly wearing a heel at all, which is great because I’m a bit wimpy when it comes to heels. The light wood and matte black leather goes with pretty much everything I own and I often find myself reaching for these when I want my outfit to feel a little dressier but still effortless. It’s a classic Sweddish style staple that I’ve admired since my teenage obsession with those Chloe platform sandals. These are arguably much more wearable and cute!
